Michelle Obama Wears Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen’s brand will live on, according to Gucci Group, which has a 51% stake in the company via http://www.WWD.com. The celebrated designer, who committed suicide last week, decided that Alexander McQueen, the label, had “transitioned from being the name of a designer to putting in place the building blocks of a brand” according to Gucci Group chief, Robert Polet.
“That means that will be my legacy,” McQueen said, according to Polet. “That’s something I will always leave behind.”
With the Fall 2010 collection almost complete, the brand will present at Paris Fashion Week between March 3-11. Surely, the fashion industry will be awaiting the collection debut with baited breath.
In the meantime, fashion moguls like Betsey Johnson and Naomi Campbell have paid tribute to the fallen fashion icon in their New York Fashion Week shows and a tribute is planned to Alexander McQueen during London Fashion Week.
Betsey Johnson tribute.
Tribute at Naomi’s Fashion Relief for Haiti Fund show.
First Lady Michelle Obama wore an Alexander McQueen printed blouse from the Spring 2009 collection to meet with ten students from London at the White House this morning. Mrs. Obama’s knowledge, thoughtfulness and sensitivity toward the Fashion World continue to amaze me.
Check out a pic of the First Lady in Alexander McQueen below via http://www.Mrs-O.org. What a subtle and beautiful tribute to the late designer.
I am so sad about his passing, but grateful we have his “legacy,” of artful, inspired designs to look forward to.
Wearing my beloved MCQ…for Target dress in solidarity.

Ode to Michelle Obama’s Shiny Hair
Hey Glamazons! I was watching the State of The Union address last night and, although I am absolutely smitten by President Obama, I just couldn’t take my eyes off of Michelle Obama’s perfectly coiffed bob; and that atothemazing shine! I kept wondering…is it some type of oil sheen? Some type of leave in hair serum? I know her hairstylist (the amazing Johnny Wright) but, alas, he’s not allowed to comment or speculate on what he does to her hair. (Something about a breach of national security…crazy, right?!) He does have a contract with the haircare brand SoftSheen Carson, so maybe it’s something from their line?
Whatever it may be, I just wanted to confess my undying love for both Michelle Obama, her shiny hair and that classy dress she’s wearing by Isaac Mizrahi. What did you guys think of her look?

Michelle Obama Gets Glam in Naeem Khan
There are few sights more dazzling than Michelle Obama in a custom-made Naeem Khan gown.
The First Lady donned a glimmery metallic strapless dress by the Indian-American designer on Wednesday to welcome Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and wife Mrs. Gursharan Kaur to the White House, and to host the Obama’s first State Dinner.
Accessorizing with a sophisticated updo, chandelier earrings, stacked diamond bangles and a champagne shawl, Mrs. Obama looked as regal and polished as ever.
Though Naeem Khan is famous for his extravagant designs, the First Lady’s dress was especially exquisite. According to Mrs. Obama’s comments on the gown: “The strapless gown features hand cut sterling silver sequins sewn on nude silk chiffon, which create an abstract floral pattern. The dress is entirely handmade, requiring three weeks of work by 40 people, completed in Naeem Kahn’s family workshop in India.”
Mrs. Obama’s choice of an Indian-American designer is not pure coincidence, but rather a subtle example of her cultural sensitivity and thoughtfulness. In fact, she wore the skirt of another Indian-American designer (and Glamazon favorite) Rachel Roy in an earlier speech about the State Dinner. The significance of the First Lady’s decision to wear lesser-known designers, and to celebrate their Indian-American heritage, was not lost on Naeem Khan:
“I feel so happy to be a part of this historical event between the two countries where my heart lies. I am relieved to have a job well done and am so honored to have been chosen. This is a Thanksgiving in its truest form for me and one that I will never forget—an American dream coming true,” Khan told People.com.
What do you think of Michelle Obama’s gown, Glamazons?
Kisses,
Coutura
