Fashion Relief For Haiti Fund Show

Hey Glamazons! As you know by now, I’ve been spreading all of my talents around this season covering Fashion Week. It’s loads of fun to have the freedom of writing not only for yourself (ie this amazing blog!), but also for other publications (ie check out a couple of my backstage beauty reports on honeymag.com here). However, the best experience so far has got to be interviewing supermodel Naomi Campbell. Yes, I, (ME!) talking with Naomi Campbell! If you’d told me 10 years ago while I lived in Texas that I’d one day interview her, I’d have laughed.
You’d never know it, but this lady is definitely all about giving back. (That doesn’t mean that she isn’t still crazy; but it seems like she has a little bit of heart somewhere in that sleek body of hers.) She’s a global ambassador for the White Ribbon Alliance, a global coalition for safe motherhood. In this role, she helps expectant mothers in various countries get the care needed to not only stay healthy but to also deliver a healthy baby. Naomi teamed up with several top designers to launch Fashion for Relief charity shows in New York and London to help the women of Haiti. And here I was, asked to interview her about all of this business. I literally had 3 minutes to do so, but I think I got some good stuff out of her! Check out the video on essence.com and let me know what you think! Also, check out some of my fave looks (and moments) from the show (because you know I was sitting second row..what, what?!). A model even fell while walking down the runway (check out the last pic). Clearly she needs to take some walking lessons from Naomi.

I know he’s made some seriously foolish mistakes in the past, but come on! Look how cute Chris Brown looks here! I met him backstage at the show and he was nice…not exactly the brightest crayon in the box, but a nice guy.
Selita Ebanks. ‘Nuff said.
Who knew that Kelly Osbourne could look so sweet and svelte?! Loved her look in the show!
Estelle rockin’ it on the runway!
Pat Cleveland rocked my world dancing on the runway. So much fun!

Fashion Week: Heart Truth with Heidi Klum, Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush!

Hey Glamazons!
After the Ports 1961 show, I took a much-needed break to eat, recharge and get ready for one of the most fabulous, fun shows of the season: Heart Truth Red Dress Collection.
The runway was adorable: glittery chandeliers hung above it and at the end, there was a set fit for a candy striper. Too cute for words!
My fabulous friend, Sandrine (check out her blog, La Dolce Vita, and upcoming blog, Date City) and I managed to get into the second row! Here’s a camera phone pic of us before the show. Loves it!
Before the show started, Superbowl winner (Who Dat!), Saints running back, Reggie Bush, tried to slip quietly in his front row seat. Little did he know, one row behind him sat the girl who’s been harboring a secret crush on him (it’s the dimples) for years…yours truly. I walked up to him to get a picture (strictly for blog purposes, wink) and he was super sweet about it. Yum.
Okay, so I had to acknowledge his fineness though I know he was there to support his girlfriend Kim Kardashian (whose crazy family I watch every Sunday so no shade at all to her, happy for them, I swear!).
Though Reggie caused a mini commotion (someone behind me asked, is that 50 Cent?), once the show started, all eyes were on the beautiful celebs.
Here’s the rundown of designers/stars plus pics!
A pregnant Bethenny Frankel was charming in Isabella Oliver. The entire time she was holding her stomach and smiling from ear-to-ear in a ruched strapless dress.
Felicity Huffman came out to applause in Oscar de la Renta. She looked stunning and stopped to hug her husband.
Estelle was gorgeous in an elaborate Zac Posen gown. She broke into a rockstar pose at the end of the runway. So fun!
Joan Collins walked out in Stephanie Rolland. The crowd erupted in applause and everyone was trying to snap a picture.
I just love Jordin Sparks’ energy! She showed off a new svelte bod in a form-fitting Badgley Mischka number.
Kim Kardashian wowed in a Marchesa gown that highlighted her famous curves. Her make-up and hair was elegant and refined. She stopped to blow a kiss to boyfriend Reggie in the front row. So cute!
Kimora Lee made an appearance wearing a short, sequin dress from her new line, Kouture by Kimora. Yes, it’s spelled with a K. She looked beautiful and stylish, as always. (Sidenote: I was surprised to see her since rumor has it that Baby Phat isn’t showing this season?! Somebody explain).
Raven-Symone hit the runway in Tadashi Shoji—and can I say she was super-fierce? She even kicked her shoes off before walking backstage! Don’t hurt nobody (No seriously, that could’ve flew into someone’s face).
One of my personal favorites was Regina King, who sauntered down the runway in a curve-hugging dress from Tracy Reese (she’s in amazing shape) to Alicia Keys’ “Put it in a Love Song.” I love that when the music suddenly stopped, she paused, broke into a pose and kept moving once it played again without missing a beat. Now that’s fierce!
Robin Roberts walked out to applause in a one-shoulder J.Crew Collection dress that showed off her toned shoulders and arms. She’s such a strong figure, battling breast cancer and covering hard news like the earthquake in Haiti, without losing her fun, cheery disposition. Everyone was inspired by her and cheered her on down the runway.
Can we stop pretending Heidi Klum is a human like the rest of us? She came out looking impossibly gorgeous in a John Galliano gown and sleek blonde hair. She’s all the more striking in person.
All the ladies walked out under red heart confetti at the end, danced and posed for a picture under the Heart Truth banner.
All in all, it was a superfun show for a better cause: spreading awareness about heart disease. Visit http://www.hearttruth.gov/ for resources about the disease and what you can do to help.
The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection show always lifts my spirits and was a great way to end a sad day in Fashion. Oh and as if the show wasn’t entertaining enough on its own, I saw my girlfriend in my head, Wendy Williams, and ran into the hilarious Robert Verdi (pictured below with the amazing Elaine) and Micah Jesse (check out his blog, he cracks me up!) after the show. Fun times!
Now off to bed for a full day of shows tomorrow. Stay tuned!

FIRST LOOK! Rachel Roy and Estelle’s Jewelry Line

Hey Glamazons,

Estelle’s first foray into Fashion, alongside celebrated designer, Rachel Roy, has come with much fanfare. Since we announced the collaboration in August, breathless anticipation for the debut of their jewelry line has only mounted—and with good reason.
Rachel Roy is a bright star in the Fashion industry with an eponymous line loved by Michelle Obama and a wildly popular diffusion line for Macy’s.
Estelle is a stylish songstress whose fun, futuristic fashion choices won her a collaboration with shoe/handbag designer, Johnathan Kelsey and a spot designing a H&M t-shirt for AIDS prevention.
With Estelle’s fearless fashion sense and Roy’s exquisite eye for detail, we all expect great things to come from their collaboration. Their debut piece (below) doesn’t disappoint. Showing traces of both Estelle and Roy’s style, it’s bold, beautiful and delightfully feminine.

Ever the social media maven, Rachel Roy has a special treat for her Facebook fans. They’ll get the chance to shop the collection before it hits the general public through a pop-up Facebook store. The petal ring (above) will be sold exclusively through the Facebook store, which will run for three days starting February 9th.
The full collection will include a wide range of conversation pieces from stunning necklaces to gorgeous rings, ranging from $34-50.
Tell me what you think of the ring, Glamazons. Are you excited about this collaboration? Will you shop the collection on Facebook?
Kisses,

Rachel Roy and Estelle are Headed to Africa

Hey Glamazons!

Accomplished designer, Rachel Roy is arguably having the best year ever. She debuted her eponymous line for Macy’s, RACHEL Rachel Roy, to critical acclaim and commercial success. She collaborated with fashionable singer, Estelle, on a jewelry collection, which makes its highly-anticipated debut in 2010. And most recently, she nailed the photo opp every designer hopes for when Michelle Obama wore her pencil skirt while announcing the First State Dinner. Pretty amazing, right?

Her latest venture is even more commendable. Marrying her two loves, fashion and charity, Rachel Roy announced via Facebook that she will travel to Africa with Estelle and her daughter, Ava, to provide impoverished women with the opportunity of a lifetime. She will include handmade clutches and bracelets from Rwandan and Tanzanian natives, many victims of genocide and abuse, in her newest RACHEL Rachel Roy collection. Roy believes that the opportunity to participate in an international market will give these women the resources they need to stop the cycle of abuse and poverty, and to provide for themselves and their families.

As Roy announced via Facebook, her mission is a collaboration with Fairwinds Trading, an organization which gives victims of poverty, abuse and genocide the opportunity to participate in international commerce: “Through Fairwinds Trading these women are able to earn an income by creating exquisite handmade goods which are sold in the U.S. I am grateful to play a role in helping to change their lives by providing jobs & offering their handcrafted pieces through RRR,” Roy said.

Check out a few of the handmade pieces below. Rachel Roy (@rachel_roy), Estelle (@estelledarlings) and Roy’s daughter Ava will document next month’s trip to Africa on Twitter.

I find the beautiful designs and noble cause really inspiring, and can’t wait to live vicariously through their pictures and anecdotes. What do you think of the pieces?

Kisses,

Compassion in Fashion: Gucci & FFAWN party with Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and Lebron James!

Hey Glamazons!

Mary J. Blige became famous singing about sorrow. Now, she’s using her painful experiences to spread joy to millions. Enter FFAWN, the Foundation For the Advancement of Women Now, which she founded with marketing pioneer, Steve Stoute. The organization seeks to inspire women to overcome difficulties and achieve success through scholarships, grants and programs. The cause is one close to the singer’s heart, as she has spoke candidly over the years of her resilient, unwavering spirit in the face of adversity. I commend her for using the pain of her past to encourage and inspire women to reach their own unique potential.

Just in time for Fashion Week, Mary J. Blige collaborated with Gucci Creative Director, Frida Giannini, to celebrate Gucci for FFAWN day on September 16th, where the 5th Avenue flagship store donated 10% of its day sales to Blige’s charity. To commemorate the special day, Blige hosted a ceremony at the Empire State Building, lighting the landmark in FFAWN’s colors, purple, yellow and white, and threw a private cocktail party that evening at the flagship store.

I had the good fortune of attending the latter. Guests, including Lebron James, Serena Williams, Alicia Keys, Estelle, Russell Simmons, Ryan Leslie, Vanessa Simmons, Dwight Eubanks and Estelle, came out in dazzling cocktail dresses and sharp suits to show their support.

Vanessa Simmons and I take a picture after the event.

The oldest Simmons daughter chatted with The Glamazons about how she plans to design a clothing line for Pastry, her popular sneaker brand. She even modeled one of her designs, a black skirt with sparkly line details, for us at the event. We’re all about sparkle at the Glamazons (check out my leather and stone vintage necklace)! Vanessa, you better work! Can’t wait to shop the collection =)

Speaking of shopping, the Gucci flagship store was an ideal venue to host the event as since 1921, Gucci’s clothing, shoes, jewelry and watches have made women feel luxurious and beautiful. Creative Director, Frida Gianninni, continues that tradition with a limited edition black PVD twirl watch she designed specifically to commemorate the collaboration with FFAWN. Check out the watch below, which is available in Gucci stores and on gucci.com. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to FFAWN.

Glamgucciessence01

Stunning.

With all the focus on shopping and party-hopping, it was great to see celebrities and designers put their energy toward a significant, worthy cause. It actually inspired me to clean out my closet, which is currently overflowing with never-worn dresses and jeans, and donate to the clothing drive at my grandmother’s church. Glamazons: how are you using your love of Fashion to give back to those less fortunate? Whether it’s the purchase of a Gucci for FFAWN watch or a clothing donation, every little bit helps.

Fashion’s Night Out with Rihanna, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Estelle & Pharrell

Whew.
Fashion’s Night Out was even more exciting and exhilarating than I expected. My only complaint is that it should have a whole week! It was IMPOSSIBLE to hit every event I wanted to in one night…and in 3-inch heels! I must say though, my friends and I made the most of the night. Let me start at the beginning.
After getting Minxed, I returned to the office for a run-through for our still life shoot the next day. Disaster ensued. Our boss wanted all new clothing samples and I literally had hours to get them all in. Fashion’s Night Out was looking less and less likely but…when there’s a will, there’s a way.
While Rachel Roy tweeted about the shaggy fur vest that was flying off the shelves of her pop-up store (follow her at @rachel_roy), I packed, did inventory and sent sample requests in under 15 minutes. I slipped on my military jacket, Dereon black booties and leopard print clutch and hit the road.
Here’s my friends, Patrice, Sandrine (who has an amazing art, fashion and lifestyle blog you have to check out!) and I hitting the road for Fashion’s Night Out!
FIRST STOP: BILLIONAIRE BOY’S CLUB
We hopped in a cab downtown to the Billionaire Boy’s Club flagship store in Soho. First of all, Fashion’s Night Out in Soho felt like Halloween night for the fashion set. Everyone was dressed up and out on the town. There could have easily been a party outside – people were everywhere traipsing through the streets in heels and shades. The line in front of BBC in particular wrapped around the corner as “Faux-Rells” (our term for Pharrell wannabe’s) littered the streets decked out in head-to-toe in BBC gear. One girl from Arkansas had been waiting on line for four hours to get a glimpse of Pharrell.
Inside, lucky shoppers enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and cupcakes, and chatted with the N.E.R.D. frontman as he worked the register. Kid Cudi made a guest appearance to the delight of the crowd that spilled onto the Soho streets and hung out with his fellow artist friend once inside the shop. Very cool!
Pharrell headed to Billionaire Boy’s Club.
SECOND STOP: RACHEL RACHEL ROY
We made it through the Kid Cudi fan crowd out alive and sauntered over to the Rachel Rachel Roy pop-up store to check out the collection. If you are a true Glamazon fan, you know I am in love—wait, obsessed—with Rachel Roy’s new collection for Macy’s. Seriously. I’ve been talking about the pop-up store since the preview in May. My favorites from the collection, like the watercolor dress I adore, were all on sale for unbelievable prices. Even cooler? She hosted a twitter contest for a free pair of peace earrings. The first ten people who showed her tweet about the earrings won a pair! So glam!
While guests waited for the ladies of the hour, Rachel Roy and host, Estelle, we were treated to Good Humor ice cream outside the shop (did I mention my two favorite loves are dessert and fashion?).

My friend Patrice loving her free ice cream!
Once they arrived, looking beautiful of course, they chatted it up with shoppers and fans then just lounged and took in the scene. Here’s a picture they tweeted from Rachel Roy’s account (twitter.com/rachel_roy). I personally love the two of them together and cannot wait for their upcoming jewelry line
Just as we were preparing to head out, in walks Iman looking statuesque and flawless. Everyone in the store went crazy as no one was expecting a guest appearance from the famed model/mogul, who was as gracious and sweet as ever! We had a wonderful time hanging out with them, but there was so much more to see!
THIRD STOP: INTERMIX
We hit the Soho streets again only to run into a mob of fans chasing Vogue Editor-in-Chief and September Issue star, Anna Wintour down the street. I’ve never seen an impeccably-dressed fashion editor run so fast in my life. I’m sure after she got to safety, though, she was pleased with the great success of Fashion’s Night Out in NYC and all over the world (I heard London gave us a run for our money!). Congratulations, Queen Anna! Congratulations.
Inside Intermix, the diva of all divas was spotted hitting the dance floor. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Rihanna, was partying inside the store in a hooded black dress, gloves, a spiky bracelet and these uber-cool studded sunglasses. Of course, she added a fierce red lip. Does it get any hotter than that? I don’t think so!
Once outside, we decided to hit up the Rocawear 25th Anniversary party uptown and as we went to hail a cab, we caught a glimpse of stylist to the stars, June Ambrose, modeling in the storefront window of Alexander McQueen! It was hilarious!!
LAST STOP: ROCAWEAR PARTY
At last, the final party of the night. We hit Rocawear’s 10th Anniversary party to celebrate the great success of the brand and rub shoulders with our fellow industry fashionistas and fashionistos. We ended the night partying to tunes from Jay-Z’s new album Blueprint 3 (LOVE Empire State of Mind with Alicia Keys) and shooting the breeze with Fashion’s elite. And as I’m rapping at the top of my lungs, who walks by? None other than Jay-Z dressed head-to-toe in black and wearing signature stunner shades. We even spotted Beyonce on the scene supporting her hubby! Unbelievable.
Wow. I had no idea when I blogged earlier about Fashion’s Night Out, that I’d be shopping and partying with some of the hottest stars in the music biz. It was an amazing night and I loved every minute of it – can’t wait until the next one! Glamazons, what was your favorite moment of Fashion’s Night Out? Who was your favorite star sighting? And let me know what great pieces you bought at the events.
Kisses,

Fashion Scoop: Estelle to Create Jewelry Line with Rachel Roy

Our beloved British belle and designer du jour are joining forces for a jewelry line, according to Rachel Roy’s Twitter page and WWD.

Judging from the accessories in Roy’s expertly-designed line for Macy’s—and Estelle’s phenomenal taste in jewelry, we’re in for some beautiful pieces! To be honest, I’m not surprised. Estelle’s been flirting with the Fashion world since designing a handbag with Johnathan Kelsey and most recently, her fab t-shirt for H&M.

Here’s the tweet:

I’m excited to be working with @EstelleDarlings on a jewelry collection, which will debut in Spring 2010. –RR

Rachel Roy also enlisted the British pop star to host the opening party for her New York pop-up shop during Spring 2010 Fashion Week (which I fully plan to attend btw). Sidenote: The store, which is located on 111 Spring Street, will be open starting September 10th. Rachel Roy shoppers can snag clothing, footwear, jewelry and accessories from the Rachel | Rachel Roy Fall collection in the 1,800 square foot space for a limited time only via WWD.

Quite honestly, I couldn’t think of a better pairing. Are you all excited for the collaboration? (Let’s just pray that the jewelry is moderately priced…)

Estelle has fashion sense to spare. I saw her wearing this gorgeous necklace at the Fall 2009 Zac Posen show. She told me via Twitter it was Balenciaga. Glam!

And here are some stunners from Rachel | Rachel Roy. I love that RR’s jewelry always makes a statement, whether it’s alluring Bohemian beauty or edgy, attention-grabbing chic.
