Street Glam: Halloween

While some people were dressing in costumes long before October 31st (two words: Lady Gaga), most of us saved our theatrical ensembles for Halloween night. We asked you via Twitter to send in the sexiest, wackiest, craziest costumes you saw (or wore) Saturday night and we loved what you sent in!
Take a look at our roundup of Street Glam costumes and hilarious Halloween pics from our favorite celebs. Scary has never been sexier!

NEW! Vanessa and Angela Simmons Launch Clothing Line

Angela and Vanessa Simmons are bringing the glitz and glam of the Los Angeles’ VIP party scene to your closet. As the Glamazons reported during NYFW, the moguls behind Pastry Kicks are designing a high-end clothing and footwear line via People Magazine. It’s only right that Vanessa and Angela, offspring of the family responsible for Baby Phat and Phat Farm, expand their own sneaker brand to clothing and footwear.
Vanessa gave me the scoop about her clothing line and modeled one of her designs at Mary J. Blige’s Gucci for FFAWN event. Check out her skirt below:

The Pastry blog also posted a pic of this dress and heels as a peak of what to come. Love the shoes!
“The pieces are just so original and so outside of the box of what anyone is doing,” Vanessa shared with People Magazine. If these looks are any indication, the line will indeed be fresh, high-fashion and VIP party-friendly. The sisters plan to launch a series of heels and flats at Macy’s this holiday season.
Discuss: do you like the pieces from Pastry VIP? Will you wear it when the collection hits stores?

Compassion in Fashion: Gucci & FFAWN party with Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and Lebron James!

Hey Glamazons!

Mary J. Blige became famous singing about sorrow. Now, she’s using her painful experiences to spread joy to millions. Enter FFAWN, the Foundation For the Advancement of Women Now, which she founded with marketing pioneer, Steve Stoute. The organization seeks to inspire women to overcome difficulties and achieve success through scholarships, grants and programs. The cause is one close to the singer’s heart, as she has spoke candidly over the years of her resilient, unwavering spirit in the face of adversity. I commend her for using the pain of her past to encourage and inspire women to reach their own unique potential.

Just in time for Fashion Week, Mary J. Blige collaborated with Gucci Creative Director, Frida Giannini, to celebrate Gucci for FFAWN day on September 16th, where the 5th Avenue flagship store donated 10% of its day sales to Blige’s charity. To commemorate the special day, Blige hosted a ceremony at the Empire State Building, lighting the landmark in FFAWN’s colors, purple, yellow and white, and threw a private cocktail party that evening at the flagship store.

I had the good fortune of attending the latter. Guests, including Lebron James, Serena Williams, Alicia Keys, Estelle, Russell Simmons, Ryan Leslie, Vanessa Simmons, Dwight Eubanks and Estelle, came out in dazzling cocktail dresses and sharp suits to show their support.

Powerhouses, Estelle, Mary J. Blige and Russell Simmons take a moment to chat on the red carpet.

Ryan Leslie is the perfect gentleman in a dapper, all-black suit.

Lebron James and Savannah Brinson make a handsome couple at the event. Love the houndstooth jacket, Savannah! [Sidenote: Go Cavs!]

Beauties, Mary J. Blige, Serena Williams and Alicia Keys, sneak in some girl talk between posing for photos.

Dwight Eubanks and I give good face at the event. Love him!

Vanessa Simmons and I take a picture after the event.

The oldest Simmons daughter chatted with The Glamazons about how she plans to design a clothing line for Pastry, her popular sneaker brand. She even modeled one of her designs, a black skirt with sparkly line details, for us at the event. We’re all about sparkle at the Glamazons (check out my leather and stone vintage necklace)! Vanessa, you better work! Can’t wait to shop the collection =)

Speaking of shopping, the Gucci flagship store was an ideal venue to host the event as since 1921, Gucci’s clothing, shoes, jewelry and watches have made women feel luxurious and beautiful. Creative Director, Frida Gianninni, continues that tradition with a limited edition black PVD twirl watch she designed specifically to commemorate the collaboration with FFAWN. Check out the watch below, which is available in Gucci stores and on A portion of the proceeds will be donated to FFAWN.

With all the focus on shopping and party-hopping, it was great to see celebrities and designers put their energy toward a significant, worthy cause. It actually inspired me to clean out my closet, which is currently overflowing with never-worn dresses and jeans, and donate to the clothing drive at my grandmother’s church. Glamazons: how are you using your love of Fashion to give back to those less fortunate? Whether it’s the purchase of a Gucci for FFAWN watch or a clothing donation, every little bit helps.

Charlotte Ronson Spring 2010 Show with Keri Hilson and Angela and Vanessa Simmons

Hey Glamazons!
And the madness continues. Today, I went to the Charlotte Ronson Spring 2010 show and was introduced to the fabulous clothes I will be rocking all next season (umm…if I get a raise).
The designs were downtown, rocker chick meets ballerina. Charlotte gave her younger fan base the trendy, downtown style they’ve come to expect from her: 80’s shoulder pads, motorcycle jackets (with puff shoulders…to die for!), harem shorts, jumpsuits, leather bras (got to get my hands on one of those!), acid wash and stonewash denim and plenty of studs, zippers and spikes.
But the fresh spin is that she juxtaposed that downtown look with feminine, ballerina-inspired details and a touch of grown-up sophistication. For example, we saw double-breasted pantsuits paired with leather studded stilettos. Boyfriend shirts and blazers and vests spiced up with funky zipper details. The ballerina twist showed up in soft hues of dove gray, white and blush and flowy fabrics like chiffon. And of course, the hairstyles were variations of the classic ballerina chignon adorned with a trendy braided headband. Here are my loves:
Blazers with leather waisted belts made for grown-up silhouettes.

And 80’s fashions ruled.
Sister Annabelle stormed the catwalk in black acid wash shorts and a shimmery bra. Hot!

It was a tough-luxe fashionista’s paradise. The opposite of Utopia, however, was the celebrity chaos that ensued before the show started. For some awful reason, the PR people couldn’t get the seating right. People who legitmately had a seating assignment (not the “fakes” who bumrush the tents) were being regulated to the back or standing because the PR people had mistakenly filled their seats. One skinny PR girl randomly gave me a seat in the center in the 3rd row when I was supposed to be in row 6 (I’m not complaining) and dished: “I’ve been working on seating for half an hour and I was just supposed to be handling invites.” Messy, messy.
Luckily, during the chaos, I got to meet Angela and Vanessa Simmons (Uncle Russ was in the building as well), spot Nicky Hilton and chat with Keri Hilson, who “appropriately” wore her “favorite Charlotte Ronson dress.” In a one-shoulder printed minidress with one matching glove and platforms, she was more than appropriate – she could have easily been one of the models. She made me wish I wore my Charlotte Ronson…for JCPenney’s dress. =)
Keri Hilson posed for me in her black/metallic mini with one-leather-sleeve and glove. Can we say fierce?
Yes to the red lip, Miss Angela. Love seeing young, fashionable beauties on the red carpet: Angela and Vanessa Simmons and Keri Hilson.
Power families: the Simmons and the Ronsons
And can I just say, I love that the Ronson shows and events are a family affair. While sister Charlotte Ronson presented her fab designs, brother Mark Ronson sat in the audience, sister Annabelle modeled on the runway and sister Samantha Ronson shut it down as a DJ. Family fun, I love it!
